Calaguas Island Camping

Calaguas Beach
Many years ago this paradise is unknown to many. Once it was featured on local tv channel, Calaguas Island are now influx of tourists either local and foreign despite the absence of high class accommodation and facilities.
Calaguas Island or group of islands is located in the northern part of my province Bicol. It is in the jurisdiction of Daet, Camarines Sur. Travel time from Manila to Daet is up to 8 hours. The island has its own pristine water and long stretch of powdery white sands that is comparable to white sands of Boracay Island.

The long stretch of powdery white sands is called Mahabang Buhangin in Tagalog or Halabang Baybay in Bicol dialect. From the mainland, Paracale, Daet Camarines Norte the boat ride is two hours. Be prepared that boat ride can be rough due to big waves. Take anti-motion sickness pill before riding the boat. Wearing life jacket is required too.
you can also trek around the hilly part of the island
We were lucky that we enjoyed the almost no crowd beach all to our selves during the time of our visit.

For hassle free camping, there are tour packages offered by different travel agencies I would recommend to avail all-in package like we did. All-in package includes transportation from/to Manila - Daet, boat rides, tents, camping fee and complete set of meals. Packages ranges from 3000 pesos to 3500 pesos per head for 2 days and 1 night for a group of 12 to 14 persons.

I hope that the locals and tourists will take care and will not abuse this beautiful place. I hope that concrete resorts will not rise in this island in the future.
